Pocket Civilization →
This is a fantastic little print-and-play solitaire board game that I discovered on Metafilter yesterday. It’s essentially like any other Civilization game you might play on your computer: You start off with a few tribesman in empty country side, and you try to build a civilization.
In this case, you draw a little map to represent your country, populate it with forests and mountains, and...
This Dude's Basement →
This weekend, we’re repainting and reflooring my little brother’s bedroom. I’m going to have to show him this: A man who decorated his basement with $10 of permanent marker (and more artistic talent than I’ll ever have).
I would post a photo, but the link above has a great 360-degree shot of the whole basement. You’ve got to take a look at it to see just how awesome...
Wario Land Shake It Trailer →
This is a pretty spiffy trailer. I don’t know if the game is any good, but I like what they did with this video.

Today’s song comes from Metafilter Music member jan murray. He recently discovered a tape in his woodshed containing a set of folk songs recorded by his acoustic band, The Early Puritans, in 1984.
The set was recorded in less than an hour on a radio/cassette player, and the tape is 24 years old, so it’s a pretty lo-fi recording, but that just adds to its charm.
This song, For...
Short Meal Service →
Short Meal Service is a spiffy recipe site which I discovered on MetaFilter Projects. Each recipe is 140 characters or less, short enough for a twitter post or a text message.
I like this idea. The character limit ensures that the recipes are less step-by-step algorithms and more sparks of inspiration for your own meal ideas.
Future plans for the site include SMS integration (you may one day...

Today we hear “Dropping out of School,” a track off of the brand new CD from Brad Sucks, entitled Out of It. The entire CD is available for free from the artist’s website, and it’s all good stuff. Go take a listen!
If you have any thoughts about the show, I’d love to get your feedback at jeremy.harper@gmail.com, or even right here on ParadeOfAwesomeness.com. Thanks for...

Robert Lang does some amazing origami. He (and those in the modern origami community) have figured out how to do some amazing things with folding paper, using computer aided design and four simple rules.
At the 11:20 mark he goes into how origami techniques can be used for more than just artwork, from space telescopes to medicine to automotive engineering.
Natural Selection is an old modification to the original Half Life. In it, you play as either a band of space marines or as a group of horrifying aliens called the Kharaa.
What makes it unique is that it’s a combination of Real Time Strategy game and First Person Shooter. The marines designate one of their players as the commander, who’s in charge of building new buildings and...

Today we hear from Amy Martin with her song Day of Reckoning off of her album Deliverance. This song is currently ranked #1 on the Garageband Folk Music charts, which is, incidentally, where I found it.
